Portfolio: Penelope

Penelope was the next in the line up of characters. I’ve been drawing her for almost 10 years. But I still needed to go back and review her proportions and facial features.

I was so rusty, that I had to draw lines across a page to make sure I got her proportions right

In this first image, I was trying to show how Penelope has no bubble. Her bubble is inside herself. She will hug all sorts of people she doesn’t know because she has no bubble. Where we might shake a hand when greeting someone and our bubbles touch, she must embrace someone for her bubble to touch someone else’s bubble.

I love the concept. I don’t love the image. While you can still buy this one as a “HOT off the PRESS” card, I really don’t want to make it into anything. So I might pull the card out of my shop all together.

Maybe it’s the composition. Or maybe she looks too stiff because I did have to draw her using proportion lines. It wasn’t flowing. If I have time, maybe I’ll redo this idea as well.

After getting the ugly images out of myself, things started to hum along and I got 3 more images that I like and one that I absolutely LOVE
