Epoch Arts: Art Show!
In September, just after we vowed to stop going to yard sales, we celebrated our anniversary of 26 years and went to a yard sale. My husband and I were both brought up by frugal parents who had to make small paydays stretch across 10 kids. (Yes, we both have 9 living siblings each.) Unfortunately, for us, that means we buy more projects and find more cool things than we have room for. Once it comes into the house, it is a lot harder to get it to leave the house. I have to make rules like, “Once it’s in the thrift box, it stays in the thrift box.”
We gave ourselves $50 and vowed to stop when the money ran out. Then we found the Epoch Arts Annual Tag Sale. It was massive, great prices, and supported a local art academy for at risk kids. When they found out I was an artist, they pointed out their art teacher director and made sure I got to visit with her. She took me on a tour of the facility. It’s an old brick building that was probably a former factory. There are a lot of these brick buildings around New England—left overs from the industrial revolution. I dream of owning one and doing something amazing with it. They are looking for another art teacher, she said.
Fortunately, I raised my hand last fall when the local intermediate school was looking for an after school Art Club teacher. And I was an elementary school teacher who dreamed of teaching art. It’s a perfect match for me. It pays a stipend, but I’m looking to explore the art education space more and this sounds perfect.
A day or so ago, the director called to invite me to display a few of my paintings at their fall open house. One of my goals for 2023 is to increase my local following. And since it is being held in November, I think my Alien Thanksgiving Painting is perfect for the event. I might even donate one of my Alien Thanksgiving puzzles to them for a raffle.
If you’re interested, the event is on November 13 from 1-4 pm on 27 Skinner Street in East Hampton, CT. Should be fun for kids and parents alike.
I bet you are asking, did we stick to the $50 budget? Almost. I think we went over by $20. But you should see the cute roll top desk that I got for $20.
