My Path to Publication
Here I keep a record of my experiences as I work toward publication.
Portfolio Building and Paige and Webb
Building a new portfolio with my characters Paige and Webb.
NJ SCBWI 2023
The main reason I chose to attend the NJ SCBWI conference was to get feedback on Paige and Webb. Specifically, I needed agent and editor feedback. I thought I had a great manuscript and I even dreamed the night before about having the agent being really excited about the possibilities.
Paige and Webb Evolve
The process of writing Draft #9 with pictures has made Paige and Webb Evolve.
Hunting for the Perfect 8 Bit Art
As I explored 8 Bit art, I find some other ways that I might be able to solve the problem.
Imagery: The Language of Shape
When I’m not sure how to portray an emotion, I like to take a specific book off my shelf and ask Walt what he thinks.
Thumbnails for Applesauce
I looked back on my thumbnails and knew Paige couldn’t look for applesauce for 2 whole spreads.
A Week of Mini Paintings
After the third day of aliens, however, I was not liking what I was producing. Even positive comments of “adorable” or “I want you to make that one into a big painting” didn’t convince me that I was enjoying the process. I think it is because just like last year, painting every day takes time.
Paige and Webb Revisted
When I think of what I want to say with my illustrations, Paige and Webb come to mind. The last time I worked on my stories around Paige and Webb, it was 2020 — about 18 months ago. This week I started a new story. If you like the beginnings of the making of the book and lots of rough sketches, you’ll love this blog post.
