Recipe Cards

One of my goals this year is to create 24 collaged illustrations with children in them. Since each illustration is connected to a family favorite recipe, my working title for this series is “Kitchen Kids”. I’ll have to see if the title sticks.

So far I’ve completed 9 illustrations (10 if you count the one that I’m not in love with.) Last week I created 9 more viable thumbnails. Of those, we will see which ones get all the way to the end. I kind of feel like they are eggs. If I have 9 viable eggs but only 6 get fertilized….how many might make it to be full term and born into the world. (What a bizarre metaphor.)

I’ve already had one of those thumbnails not pan out. I’ve taken it literally back to the drawing table several times and so far it’s not working for me.

On days like this, I wish making art was more like doing math. I wish it was more linear. It can be very frustrating.

But today, I’d like to celebrate the 9 Illustrations that I’ve completed. I’m really proud of my hard work. I’ve come to love this medium even if it takes quite a bit more time than other mediums. There is something therapeutic and relaxing about pushing though the hard parts and having a collage come together. Enjoy.
