Mini Big News

I just dismissed a timer that rings every day at 2 pm. It says, “Stop and Write a Blog Post”. I’m tempted to write about how I only ran errands and did paper work today. Which is true. But not very interesting to read.

So perhaps I’ll start with my biggest news of the weekend. I sold my first mini painting.

It caught me off guard. When I saw the order, I was discombobulated. (Is that really a word? It must be. The blog editor didn’t underline it in red.) I just wasn’t expecting it so soon.

One of my goals is to make the opening of my art memorable. I’m not there yet, but smashing it into a 4x6 envelope and putting an 80 cent non machinable stamp on it didn’t seem very respectful of the art. I value my art and I want my collector to value it as well.

I thought up a lot of ideas—ranging from the exorbitant to the inexpensive. Then I reminded myself that I am allowed to evolve and that includes my packaging.

So today, I bought some acid free photo cards. Placed the mini painting inside the card and put a sticker on the back. Then I wrote the name of the piece on the card just below the painting. I placed it in a padded envelope with an additional piece of strong cardboard to keep the mail from being rolled and slid in a note to the recipient.

The result I believe is respectful of the art and reflects the budget constraints my business has at this time. My hope is that this will become a treasured piece of art for the receiver.
